Minutes for the WSWCD meeting held January 8, 2026, at the Wakulla County Extension Office, 84 Cedar Avenue, Crawfordville, Fl 32327
The meeting was called to order by Chairman David Shepard at 6 pm. Other members present were Kellie Keys, Emily Johnson, Clay Hall and Cal Jamison. There were no guests.
The agenda was approved unanimously. Moved by Kellie, 2nd by Emily.
The minutes for the December 11, 2025, meeting were approved unanimously. Moved by Kellie, 2nd by Emily.
Emily gave the Treasurer Report. No statement has been received as yet. The Prime Meridian Bank is now known as the MidFlorida Credit Union and sent a new Wakulla Soil and Water Conservation District debit card (with Cal Jamison on the card). Cal will activate the card.
Old Business:
Florida Department of Agriculture report: The annual goals for the year are to be posted to our website. Kellie
Arbor Day update: No fee for nonprofit organizations. All members are attending in two shifts. Kellie and Cole are responsible for the tent and tables. We will have name tags.
Poster Contest: Our contest will be held locally with the gopher tortoise as the theme. There will be three age categories. Information will be distributed to the schools this week and at the Arbor Day event. Posters are due by March 5, 2026.
New Business:
Cole Hall was unanimously appointed to fill out the rest of the term for Seat 1. Moved by Kellie, 2nd by Emily.
Supervisor Items:
Kellie reported that Sam Wommack, owner of Ames Sink, has passed away. Access could be limited now. Kellie also said that Wakulla Springs biologist, Patty Wilbur, reported a new sinkhole on the park property.
Kellie said that the old website is still up. The new one is almost ready to go up. It still needs documents uploaded.
Cole said that there is a sinkhole on his parent’s property off of Fulton Harvey Road. Arrangements for a visit will be made.
David provided a copy of this year’s agreement with IFAS for the use of our meeting room.
Cal gave the Springs Update: The visibility has been in the 30’-40’ range for the last several weeks. The color remains green. Some suspended solids in the water column are causing the poor visibility readings. Plenty of manatees and gators.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 7:25pm. Moved by Kellie, 2nd by Emily.
